About the BBPA Harry Jerome Awards
The BBPA Harry Jerome Awards is a prestigious celebration of achievement in the Black community. It also serves as a fundraiser in support of the BBPA’s work in promoting the advancement of the Black-Canadian community in the areas of education, economic and entrepreneurial development, and young professional training and development.
The awards showcase, recognize, and honor excellence within the African-Canadian community, acknowledging African-Canadian professionals who have had a widespread, positive effect on Canadian society. In doing so, they inspire excellence and civic duty in others.
Categories The Harry Jerome Awards, acknowledged as Canada’s most prestigious national awards gala honoring the African-Canadian community, the BBPA Harry Jerome Awards focus on a number of different categories, including athletics, leadership, young entrepreneurs, business, professional excellence, leadership, arts/media entertainment, health sciences. These awards are done through a nomination process by individuals and organizations across the country.
The Board of Directors additionally selects the presidents, lifetime achievement and diversity awards.
The nomination process begins October 1st 2023. Applicants are encouraged to self-nominate and others may also nominate those leading in their industry, whom they believe are deserving of the BBPA Harry Jerome Award.
Nominees are evaluated by a committee co-chaired by past winners. Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. on January 6th 2024. Ten (10) applicants will be selected, one for each category and this information is forwarded to the BBPA Board for approval. Honorees will be announced in March, at a media launch luncheon. The award gala will be held on April 27, 2024.
